Self-Reflection – Week 2 of Teaching Practice (03/11/2025 to 07/11/2025)

Self-Reflection – Week 2 of Teaching Practice (03/11/2025 to 07/11/2025)

The second week of my teaching practice was a meaningful continuation of my growth as a teacher trainee. During this week, I handled a total of four classes: Physics for Standard 8B on the chapter Static Electricity and Chemistry for Standard 9 on the chapter Redox Reactions. Each class helped me refine my teaching strategies and classroom management skills.

In the Static Electricity classes, I focused on simplifying abstract concepts through demonstrations and examples from daily life. I noticed that students were highly engaged when I used activities and questioning techniques. However, I felt the need to improve the pacing of my lessons to ensure better coverage of each subtopic. In Chemistry, while teaching Redox Reactions, I made deliberate attempts to link oxidation and reduction with real-world chemical processes. Students responded positively, though some required extra clarification on electron transfer. This made me realize the importance of repeated reinforcement, especially for concept-heavy topics.

Apart from classroom teaching, I actively participated in school co-curricular activities. I attended the Eureka prize distribution, which gave me insights into how schools encourage academic excellence. I also took part in noon feeding serving, which helped me experience the school's commitment to student welfare. Additionally, participating in the Sub District Kalolsavam allowed me to observe the students’ talents and the immense effort put in by teachers to nurture them. These experiences broadened my understanding of the teacher’s role beyond the classroom.

Overall, Week 2 strengthened my confidence and enhanced my sense of responsibility as a teacher trainee. I realized the importance of balancing lesson preparation, student engagement, and participation in school activities. Moving forward, I aim to improve my time management in classes, incorporate more learner-centered methods, and provide additional support to students who need reinforcement. This week was truly enriching and continues to shape me into a more reflective and effective teachers.
