Self-Reflection – Teaching Practice (Week 7)

 12/01/2026 to 16/01/2026

During the seventh week of my teaching practice, I handled three classes across two standards, which helped me further develop my pedagogical skills and classroom management abilities. I took two classes in Standard VIII Physics and one class in Standard IX Chemistry.

In Standard VIII Physics, I taught the topics Magnetic Levitation and Magnetic Compass. While teaching magnetic levitation, I used real-life examples and demonstrations to help students visualize the concept of magnetic repulsion and its applications. Students showed keen interest and actively participated by asking questions and sharing observations. The lesson on the magnetic compass helped students understand the Earth’s magnetic field and the practical use of a compass in navigation. Simple activities and questioning techniques enhanced their conceptual clarity and engagement.

In Standard IX Chemistry, I handled the topic Unsaturated Hydrocarbons. The lesson focused on alkenes and alkynes, their general formulae, properties, and differences from saturated hydrocarbons. I used charts and structural representations to make the topic more understandable. Students responded positively and were able to identify unsaturated hydrocarbons and their characteristics through guided discussion.

Apart from classroom teaching, I actively participated in various co-curricular activities. I assisted in the Noon Feeding Programme, which helped me understand the importance of nutrition and welfare schemes in promoting student health and attendance. I also took part in the Chief Minister’s Quiz, supporting the smooth conduct of the programme and encouraging student participation. Additionally, I contributed to the Annual Day preparations, which enhanced my teamwork, organizational skills, and sense of responsibility.

Overall, Week 7 was a meaningful and enriching experience. It strengthened my confidence in handling different subjects, improved my communication skills, and helped me understand the holistic role of a teacher beyond classroom instruction. I realized the importance of integrating academic teaching with co-curricular activities to ensure the all-round development of students.
